Hands down, this is the BEST time of year to cosy up on the couch and spend the majority of the month making your way through your favourite Halloween movies. Even if you’re not a fan of scary films, some of the best Halloween films don’t even fall into the horror genre, just a little spooky and perfect for everyone.
Here are ten of the best Halloween films to sink your teeth into this month, from not so scary at all, to those for only the brave-hearted. Enjoy!
Okay, how could we not include it? It’s not Halloween until the three Sanderson sisters are on our screens, causing chaos after accidentally being resurrected by Sam on Halloween night. It may ancient at this stage, but it’s iconic nonetheless.
The Addams Family
Another classic, we bet you can’t help yourself but dance when the theme music comes on. Arguably, the Addams Family are possibly one of the most famous families of all time, so they had to make the cut here. Again, dare I say, iconic.
The Addams Family Values
Just as good as the original, if not better, The Addams Family sequel deserves a spot on your must-watch list this October. Preferable on a Sunday, cosying up in front of the fire, with an Addams Family marathon. Is there anything better?
Not reserved for Halloween only, Casper is the perfect feel-good film that you can watch all year round. But seeing as it’s all about ghosts, we’re gonna include it. A must-watch, the cutest of all Halloween-esque films, ideal for all the fam.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Okay, technically this is a Christmas film? But Tim Burton worked a little magic with this one. If you’ve decided to dress up this year and still haven’t decided on an outfit, take inspo’ from this.
The Haunted Mansion
Well, we bet this Disney flick will bring back some childhood memories! Spooky, funny and heartwarming, it’s everything we need right now, tbh.
If any film is gonna put you in the mood for Halloween, it’s Goosebumps. A bit of everything that’s spooky, along with a gorge autumnal setting, what’s not to love? If you ever read the hand-me-down books as a child, you’ll love this just as much.
From well before our time, but a great film nonetheless. Another Tim Burton pick, he definitely knows his stuff when it comes to all things spooky. This one will have you laughing while you’re enjoying it all the way through, there’s some absolute bops to dance away to too. Win-win,
If you fancy something a little scarier rather than just spooky, Scream is ideal. Because it’s an oldie (still a goodie) it’s actually not scary at all, and can even provide you with a few laughs while getting in the Halloween spirit. A classic!
Easily, the scariest of the lot on this list – if you’re not a fan of scary films, steer clear from this one. Released last year, Us terrified pretty much everyone as they watched a family being confronted by their terrifying doppelgängers. Maybe reserve this one for as close to Halloween as possible, to really get you in that scary Halloweeny mood…
