We all know her and many of us adore her. Cardi B has been blessing her fans with some hit singles for almost as long as we can remember. Forever keeping it real over on her Instagram too, it’s kind of hard not to have Cardi on your radar. Whether you’re a superfan or have just attempted a Tik Tok dance to one of her songs, here’s 10 things you may not have known about her.

Her real name is Belcalis Almanzar.

That’s right, Cardi B isn’t really her real name. Her real name Belcalis Almanzar is actually a Spanish translation of Arabic works. Belcalis a reference to queen of Sheba and Almanzar roughly translates to “lookout point” or “watchtower”.

Her parents could be Irish?

The nickname is actually a reference to the rum Bacardi which is quite fitting considering her sister is named Hennessy, we’re assuming after the brandy – we wonder if they have some Irish in them?

Cardi once had a retail job

As a teenager, Cardi worked as a cash register at an Amish Market in TriBeCa with a salary of 250 dollars a week. So yeah, at one point she was just like us.

Plastic surgery could have killed her

The rapper had gotten butt implants which cost her 800 dollars. Her butt was reportedly illegally injected with silicone which had terrible side effects. Cardi admitted to being in terrible pain and felt like she was going to pass out. Her implants leaked for five days after that. OUCH! Cardi later got a touch-up procedure and found out that her doctor apparently had to quit due to a death relating to the surgery – yikes!

She  made history with the success of “Bodak Yellow”

The single was a huge breakthrough moment for the rapper bringing her most of her success and hitting the top of the billboard hot 100. This made Cardi the first solo female rapper to have a number one hit since Lauryn Hill’s 1998 single “Doo Wop (that thing)”, and fifth female rapper to have an album in the top charts.

Her idol is Madonna

Cardi had admitted to growing up listening to Madonna with her mom for hours and even performing the song Material Girl during her freshman year in high school – cute!

She’s friends with the Kardashians

We know, who isn’t at this point? But, Khloe Kardashian used to have her own TV show called Kocktails with Khloe where Cardi B was a guest star, which kicked off a great friendship. Cardi’s daughter, Kulture often has play dates with the Kardashian kids too.

She’s obsessed with fashion

It comes to no surprise that Cardi b loves fashion. Every time she’s seen in public, she’s wearing something eye-catching and very high fashion. She serves some serious looks over on the gram’, although we’re not sure we could recreate them outside of sunny LA – but, they’re fun to look at anyway!

She doesn’t have a drivers license

Although you’d assume Cardi cuts around in some expensive cars, she actually doesn’t have a license or knows how to drive. In an Instagram live, Cardi spoke about the new car she bought herself, admitting that she can’t actually drive it: “How do you expect me to know how to drive when I’ve taken the train my whole life”, yeah, we can relate hard to that one.
