Room Revamp is a series where we help you make your bedroom your dream space.  From simple tidying hacks to creating more space and adding touches of style to make it somewhere you love to cosy up.

Like an outfit, adding a few sneaky style rules can make a huge difference to how tidy, stylish and well-put-together our bedrooms can be.

Match Bedding and Lighting

Sometimes having a colour scheme can look really well, but sometimes it can look like it’s too forced and lack personality. The best compromise is to have two staple elements in the same colour so that even if everything else is different, those two items will pull it all together. Matching a lamp to your bedding is the best and easiest way to do this. Love a bright blue duvet? Opt for a bright blue lamp beside it!

The bed doesn’t need to be too made

One upon a time an iron-straight pristine bed with countless cream pillows was the lewk. Now though, as airy, boho styles become more and more popular, a neat – but not perfect- bed is the way to go. Think white ruffled sheets with a throw draped at the end, this way it’s a cosy space instead of something in a hotel room.

Add a headboard

Headboards can instantly make your room look more sophisticated, put together and add a focal point in the room. If you can’t afford an expensive velvet or wooden board, try this cheeky paint hack to add it in.

Don’t be afraid to mix and match styles

It’s great to have a general theme or look to your room, but again, remember we’re not going for a hotel room look. While you can have a colour scheme or sun, moon, stars theme to the decor, it’s totally fine to throw a spanner in the works and add an antique style rug or a few plants.

Use multipurpose furniture

If you’re limited on space, try making sure that things you’re buying have a purpose as well as being pretty, so make sure the pouffe you get is also a storage box, or the chest of drawers can be used as a vanity table, this way you won’t regret having a cool pink chair that actually does nothing but take up space.

Fix small chips and marks

Tiny marks and scratches can actually make a huge difference to the overall look of your room. If you see a scratch in your wardrobe, try painting over it in a similar colour or varnish. Ask a parent sibling or guardian for help repairing the little issues around your room and it’ll look brand new.

Don’t stuff your closet/drawers/wardrobe

Maybe the best tip I ever learned was to close my drawers properly. How obvious does that sound?! But it makes a massive difference. If you don’t overstuff your wardrobes and drawers, you can close them more easily, meaning you won’t have a random sleeve or belt peeping out of the corner of the closet. No matter how tidy the floor or bed is, your room will never look clean with some clothes bursting out.
