7 Podcasts That Will Always Put A Smile On Your Face

Whether you just want to have the lols or learn something a little different.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve genuinely exhausted my Spotify playlists at this stage. No matter which one I click into, I feel like I’ve been listening to the same songs over and over for way too long. I started listening to podcasts probably just under a couple of years ago, and then just kind of stopped out of nowhere.

Now that my poor Spotify playlists are exhausted, I’ve reverted back to podcasts. Plus, they’re ideal for keeping you company on your lockdown walks. Here are five to add to your must-listen list, that are sure to put a smile on your face each and every time.

I’m Grand Mam

I chatted about the I’m Grand Mam podcast in this week’s Team KISS, and now just because I love it so much, I’m going to talk about it again. It’s something to look forward to every Monday.

PJ and Kevin are both from Cork, and moved over to London for their dance careers. Fast forward a few months, and they were having everyone laughing away to themselves with their weekly podcast. The pair talk about everything, everything! From their coming out experiences to what’s in the news, and each time they’ll have Alexa DJ’ing for them.

The Glow Up

Okay I’m slightly biased here because The Glow Up is by STELLAR, KISS’ big sister. But if you love makeup and chatting about beauty products, The Glow Up is going to put a smile on your face. Every. Single. Time. I started listening to The Glow Up quite a while ago, and have tuned in every time ever since.

Vicki and Denise welcome a new guest every second week, whether they’re an influencer, an author, an entrepreneur, anyone who loves to talk about all things beauty. From what their own go-to beauty style is, to their all-time favourite makeup, hair and skincare products.

Castaway

Missing Love Island? Well, this might fill that tiny little hole. Not because it’s anything to do with Love Island really, but it’s presented by Laura Whitmore. And we’ll take what we can get right now. Laura’s podcast is, well, a podcast about podcasts. Chatting to celebrity guests each week about what they’re listening to, it’s the tonic we need right now.

With everyone from Nicola Coughlan and Niall Horan to Jordan Stephens and Dolly Alderton joining her as guests to talk about podcasts on mental health, comedy, love, crime or your next fictional series to binge listen to, you’re sure to be obsessed with it pretty quickly.

Thanks A Million

Angela Scanlon’s ‘Thanks a Million’ podcast is all about positivity, with the guests she talks about being thankful, everything that is good and great, what they’re thankful for and much more. It’ll have you laughing, learning and just having a good time all round.

Check out Aisling Bea’s episode, and Marian Keyes episode to get things started.

Laughs of Your Life

If you haven’t listened to Doireann’s podcast just yet, you’re missing out. Doireann chats to guests about all things laughter. Their first memories of laughter to being laughed at to ‘if I didn’t laugh I’d cry’ moments.

I can bet that you’ll be answering for yourself each time you listen too, the perfect lockdown walk companion!

Happy Place

This is another one of the first podcasts I started listening to, Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place. In the series, Fearne talks to celebrities from all aspects of life, about their own story and their own happy place.

Admittedly, it can get a little sad sometimes, especially hearing about people’s backgrounds which even though they’re celebrities, you really hadn’t a clue about. Although it can get a little sad, everything is still on the cheery side of things and it’s a great podcast to enjoy some escapism right now.

Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness

How could I include a list of podcasts to put a smile on your face, and not include Queer Eye’s Jonathan Van Ness? Basically, each episode centres around something that JVN is curious about, from ancient Egyptians to figure skating. He’ll invite experts on to give their opinions and explain things.

Listening to this podcast, you’re gonna learn a LOT, but also because JVN is naturally so lovely and funny, you’ll be hard-pressed to not find yourself smiling all the way through.
