Ask Shelley: Why Am I The Only One Who Hasn’t Developed Yet

"You are so much more than your bra size, I promise you!"

Periods and puberty are totally natural, but often totally confusing too. If you’re worried, curious, or questioning something in this area, we’ve got you. Nurse, midwife and all-round puberty expert Shelley is on hand to answer all your burning questions.

Today’s question is about puberty.

So this is embarrassing but my friends have all developed boobs and curves and I’m so flat. I barely fill out my bras and I look so skinny and boyish compared to the other girls in my class. Why is this?

Shelley says:

“Bodies develop and mature at different times and rates, and everyone’s body is different, not just during puberty!

I know it can be hard when you see your friends bodies changing around you but that doesn’t mean that anything is wrong with you.

Instead of worrying ‘when will this happen for me’ try to appreciate your body for all it does for you, for example: it carries you around, allows you to dance, play sport, fights off infection, protects you, and it keeps you healthy!

And try to love it as it is right now, you’re so much more than your bra size, I promise you!”
