Dove Cameron Opens Up On The Hardest Part Of Her Split From Thomas Doherty

"I was in a really bad place."

Dove Cameron has opened up about the reality of going through a breakup.

Dove split from boyfriend of four years and former Descendants co-star Thomas Doherty in October 2020. Now, Dove has released a new single ‘LazyBaby’ all about, yes, you guessed it, breakups!

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight about the single, Dove revealed what the song meant to her.

“It follows a post-breakup. I went through a very public breakup last year, and I was in a really bad place like a really, really bad place,” she admitted.

“It was really hard and I needed something that was going to get me from where I was, in the mourning process, into the other side.”

The couple’s split also coincided with the pandemic, which Dove admitted made it difficult for her to move on, especially since she was alone.

“No one could come out and see me and I couldn’t leave Canada.” ”

However, through all the pain of her recent breakup, Dove admits that her and Thomas still “love each other very much.” She nearly went as far as to say they are soulmates.

“I personally believe we have many soulmates in this life but I don’t think that somebody stops being a soulmate when you break up. I will love him differently now.”

“He’s one of my favourite people in the world.. I don’t think we could ever not be in a good place. Even when we were breaking up.”

What a lovely way to look at it all!
