It’s important to take care of your mental health and Dove Cameron shows us just how essential it is, no matter where you are. She Tweeted about her experience having a “public therapy session” in line for the red carpet at the Oscars this week.

Dove revealed that when her psychiatrist called at what seemed like a less than ideal time, she realised that “mental health comes first. No matter what”, and she had a 13 minute long chat about her anxiety, depression and mental health history in earshot of many at the busy red carpet. “I value me !! more than what someone thinks of me”, Dove tweeted about the experience.

It can be tough to talk about mental health especially in public, but Dove tweeted to a fan who thanked her for normalising talking about mental health saying “try as often as i can to be comfortable with it and exhibit transparency and vulnerability !! only way through.”

The Liv and Maddie star has been open about her struggles with mental health in the past, admitting she nearly quit Liv and Maddie after its first season because of the stress it caused her. She often takes breaks from social media, saying after 2 months of conciously staying off socials in 2019 that she’d “never been less anxious or more content.”

Mental health is something that everyone deals with daily, If you’re feeling overwhelmed make sure to talk to someone about it, a problem shared is a problem solved. More information about mental health can be found at spunout.ie.
