The thought of waking up at the crack of dawn when it’s still cold outside makes us want to jump right back into bed and hit the snooze button on the alarm. Yet, do not fear, we here at KISS have you covered! This week we’ve picked our top five classic teen movies of all time to give you a pick me up this evening!
So when dinner is eaten and homework is done, don’t just mope about for the evening scrolling through your phone, opt for one of these classics for the ultimate pick-me-up!

DRAMA ALERT! Right ladies- if you’re looking for the perfect chick flick to sit back and relax to come Monday night- look no further! The iconic American teen classic, Mean Girls has you covered! Filled with social cliques, catfights and stiff boy competition, Mean Girls is the perfect movie to catch a glimpse of life inside an all American High School. Famously, starring Lindsay Lohan who plays the character of sixteen-year-old Cady Heron, Cady is lured inside one of the most popular social cliques in the school, ‘The Plastics’, only to discover that things are not as pretty as they seem from the outside. While involved with ‘The Plastics’ Cady learns that Regina, their Queen Bee, keeps a ‘Burn Book’ full of rumours about other girls in the school. If that wasn’t enough Cady is dragged further into the drama as she falls for Regina’s boyfriend, Aaron Samuels, causing rivalry between these two girls as they play tricks on each another in order to get revenge. To keep it short and sweet, Cady not only loses sight of her true friends for the sake of popularity and a crush but also a sense of herself. By the end of the movie, you’ll be left feeling super confident in being yourself! Plus, with such a stellar cast – Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amy Poehler, Amanda Seyfried and Tina Fey, you’re guaranteed to be in a good mood!
What we learned from Mean Girls: Being popular is not worth risking your friendships for, and not worth acting like a bitch for!
Fancy watching a mother and daughter switch bodies and lives for a day? If so- Freaky Friday is the movie for you. Although released in 2003, this movie is sure to have you falling off the sofa in laughter. Starring Jamie Lee Curtis who single mother, Tess Coleman, alongside Lindsay Lohan AKA Anna, her eccentric rock and roll teenage daughter, both wake up having switched bodies with each other after receiving cryptic fortunes from a Chinese restaurant. Can you IMAGINE?! With Anna having now having to perform the duties of her mother who’s a therapist while also tending to parental duties things start to get FREAKY. Anna tries to upgrade her mom (Tess’s) outward appearance by donning new outfits to work while Tess (who lives in Anna’s body) tries to live like Anna for a day, encountering the typical teenage of conflict of falling out with one’s teacher and friendship troubles with fellow student Stacey. You can imagine how wild it all gets!
What we learned from Freaky Friday: You and your parents will never see eye to eye at all times, but don’t give them such a hard time!
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Ever dreamed of a day off school but were too scared to do so? Fear not! You can now live out this dream by watching Ferris himself. A 1986 American classic that never goes out of fashion-Ferris Bueller’s Day off is the perfect Monday night release. What every kid has dreamed of-a day off from school unnoticed by parents and school authorities is just what Ferris sets out to achieve by pretending he is so sick! From trying to plan a road trip with his best friend Cameron and entice his girlfriend Sloane to join, all with the ambition of borrowing Cameron’s father’s Ferrari, Ferris has us gripped to the screen as we wait in anticipation that Ferris will get caught. If you’re looking for a movie full of fun and adventure, that gives plenty of hearty laughs along the way- then this beloved teen comedy is definitely for you.
What we learned from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off: It’s okay to be a little bold sometimes, just don’t go skipping school!
The Princess Diaries
If you’re looking for the ultimate girlie Fairytale of the transformation of an ordinary girl to a Princess, then Princess Diaries is the movie for you. Starring Anne Hathaway who plays the role of Mia Thermopolis this movie will have you invested in the entire Princess Diaries franchise from the get-go. Upon hearing the news that Mia is sole heir to the European Kingdom of Geneva, having inherited it from her late father, her grandmother Clarissa (played by Julie Andrews) is eager to train her in to be the finest princess in all the land. However, this is a big step for Mia who is somewhat of a social outcast at home having very few friends apart from Lily and Lily’s older brother Michael. Finding the line between having fun and sticking to the duties of the princess prove tricky too! This movie is the perfect coming of age story of a girl transforming from a teenager to a young adult. If you’re even slightly interested in the role and glamour involved with being a princess, this movie is definitely worth a watch. Expect glitz, glamour, boys and plenty of sparkly crowns! P.S.- if you like Princess Diaries 1 & 2 keep your eyes peeled for Princess Diaries 3 which has no release date yet but a little birdie told us that script has been revealed.

Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging
Ever thought you were the only person struggling through the trials and pitfalls of adolescence? Look no further- Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging will prove to you that you are not alone. Covering a range of topics such as dating, kissing, peer pressure and urges this movie provides the ultimate teen survival guide to get you through young adolescent years. Georgia Nicolson is worried about her looks, frustrated by her ‘embarrassing mum’ and concerned that she will never pick up a boyfriend, it’s everything a teen can relate to! It’s got loads of sweet moments, and plenty of eye candy too with the handsome love interests Aaron Taylor Johnson and Sean Bourke. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll definitely cringe!
What we learned from Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging: Every teen in the world has embarassing moments, and friendship is super important.
