How To Find Your Style Outside Of Your School Uniform

No more weekend outfit panic!

While having to wear a school uniform is good for the mornings when you wake up and already have your outfit picked out, it can be so annoying when you’re trying to find out what your personal style is. The weekend comes around and you’re scrambling through drawers trying to figure out what to wear.

This guide of tips and tricks to finding your own style will save you the struggle and the messy room every weekend and mid-term.

Shop your wardrobe

The best way to figure out what you like wearing and how you like styling it is to see what you already have! It’s a messy process but one that always works. You always end up finding that dress you loved and haven’t worn in months because it was buried under a jacket!

Start by laying everything out in categories.

Sort your tops, dresses, jeans, skirts, etc. into separate piles, so you can see everything all at once.

To figure out what kind of stuff you want to keep, look through photos of old outfits you loved and find those pieces. They’re the things you know you want to keep.

Organising your wardrobe

Once you’ve decided on what pieces you’re keeping, start putting together outfits with them.

Place all the tops that go with your favourite pair of jeans hanging beside each other when putting them back in your wardrobe. This way, you can open the closet and be able to see an outfit straight away, avoiding panic!

Doing this will make you realise you’re probably missing a few basic pieces, or even give you inspiration for more out-there pieces to really make sure these outfits showcase your style.

Basics, basics, basics!

Once you’ve got your set outfits put together, finding the missing pieces is the next thing.

To really make sure you have enough to rotate a staple wardrobe that fits a style you’re interested in, getting essential items is the way to go!

Find colours that you’re comfortable wearing and you can pair with other things you already own, then try to find basic items like bodysuits, turtle necks, button-ups, versatile pieces that you can style in ways to fit your desired aesthetic.

Layering is key

When it comes down to a year-round wardrobe, these pieces you’ve collected and outfits you’ve put together can be so flexible weather-wise. Layering is your best friend when it comes to experimenting with clothes and finding a style that fits you. It’s the perfect way to play around and find a silhouette that you prefer.

The best part about finding out what type of layering suits you best is you’ll never freak out over not having anything to wear again! You’ll always have that super cute and funky staple fit to fall back on.

Find inspo

Speaking of inspo… One of the hardest parts about figuring out your personal style, especially when you’re stuck in a uniform 5 days a week, is actually thinking about what aesthetic and vibe you want to go for.

The best way to get ideas when trying to narrow it down is by looking at what other people are doing.

Go on Insta and Pinterest, figure out what kind of stuff you’re liking more, who you follow and why you’re following them. See if you have anything in the outfits you’ve put together that would fit that style and if it’s one you actually really like.

There are no rules to it, you can play around with ideas until you find the perfect style for you!

Have fun!

The most important thing to remember while trying to figure out your style outside of school is to have fun with it! Make it a fashion show-style day and play around with trying on different outfits and things you never thought you’d wear together.

A lot of the time the best outfits come from two things you thought you would hate paired together! You can always surprise yourself with what you like in fashion, it’s the best part about it.

With these tips, you can get started on your journey to finding your own style for those non-uniform days and having everyone turn their heads to check out your fab fits!
