If You’re Under 16, TikTok Is About To Change For You

How do you feel about the changes?

TikTok is one of the most entertaining, hilarious and honestly, informative places on the internet.

There are so many good things about the app, but as will most things there are some downsides too.

The app is so vast and popular that sometimes the content you get might not be very nice, very appropriate or even safe.

This is why the app is changing for those under the age of 16.

Now if you’re under 16, your account will automatically be private.

With a private TikTok account, only followers you approve can view your videos.

Additional changes TikTok is rolling out to promote a safe experience for our younger users include:

Tightening the options for commenting on videos created by those under age 16. These users can now choose between Friends or No One for their account; the Everyone comment setting is being removed.

Duet and Stitch settings will be changed so that the broader TikTok community won’t be able to Duet or Stitch with people under 16. But if you’re under 16 but anyone can Duet and Stitch with eligible content from users over 16. For users aged 16-17, the default setting for these features will now be set to Friends.

Videos made by people under 16 can not be downloaded by anyone. Other users can decide whether they want to allow downloads of their videos, though for users aged 16-17 the default setting will now be changed to Off unless they decide to enable it.

Setting “Suggest your account to others” to Off by default for users under 16.

The measure is to combat safety and privacy and reduce the risk of child-grooming, and inappropriate interactions with older people.

You’ll still get to brows videos, follow your faves and comment and share any videos from those over the age of 16.
