As once the most followed star on Instagram, Selena Gomez made the decision to step back from the app and the amount she was using it in 2018, following an ongoing battle with her health and her wish to be more “present” in real life.
But now, in a recent candid post, Selena has revealed that in recent months, after years of battling with her confidence and how she looked following a kidney transplant in 2017, she’s feeling more “proud” than ever before.
“When I got my kidney transplant, I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar. I didn’t want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up,” she said.
“Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through…and I’m proud of that,” She added: “all bodies are beautiful.”
Sharing a photo of herself in a beautiful blue swimsuit, with her arms about her head and her scar facing outwards, the Ice Cream hitmaker looks confident and happy.

Selena needed a kidney transplant following complications from the autoimmune disease lupus. Receiving the kidney from her best friend, Francia Raisa, Francia later revealed Gomez nearly died due to complications from the surgery.
Some people feel conscious of their scars and that’s okay. But if you have a scar you feel self-conscious about, remember that lots of people all around the world have scars too and they are nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about, and often show you overcame something tough to be where you are today, and that’s something to be proud of.
