Mac Miller’s family have heavily criticised a new biography coming out about his life. The book, called Most Dope: The Extraordinary Life of Mac Miller, is written by Paul Cantor, who Mac’s family claim had no relationship with the singer.

Since the announcement of the book, Mac’s mother Karen has released a statement about how the family feel towards it. She shared that it is; “not authorized or endorsed by Malcolm’s family and has been written by a writer with whom Malcolm did not have a relationship.”

As well as this she shared; “the writer of this book was made aware at the outset of the process of writing this book that the family and friends of Malcolm were uncomfortable with him authoring this biography, yet he chose to proceed against our polite insistence that he not do a disservice to Malcolm’s legacy through writing a book without legitimate primary sources.”

Continuing she added that Paul “had no meaningful access to those that were closest to Malcolm.”

The rapper, who was also well known for dating singer Ariana Grande, passed away at the age of 26 after an accidental overdose. The family have approved a biography of his life already, written by Donna-Claire Chesman and has also been recently announced.

His mother Karen has revealed that she believes this second, unapproved book is trying to capitalise on Mac’s tragic death.

“We have been consistently disappointed by the author and publisher’s decision to pursue this book given their full understanding of our discomfort.”

Finally, she asked fans not to buy this book, instead encouraging them to boycott it’s release; “we urge those that wish to support Malcolm and his legacy to abstain from purchasing this new book.”
