Knowing your skin type can be a hard thing to grasp, simply because it can often change, for better or for worse. You could have dry skin your whole life, then wake up one morning to find your skin has decided to walk on the oily side of life. While it can be hard to grasp, it’s actually pretty easy to figure out what kind of skin you have.
Why Do I Need To Know?
Knowing your skin type is super important. Once you know what kind of skin you have, you can take care of it properly, use the right products that your skin needs, and from there? Well, it can only get better.
How Do I Figure Out What Skin I Have?
You’re best to do this after cleansing, once your face is spick and span, and clean of any product. Don’t reach for any of your favourite products, just leave your skin bare-faced. After 30 minutes, take a look in the mirror. If your skin feels tight and a bit dull, you’re probably more dry skinned. If your skin is noticeable shiny, then you’re more oily skinned. A bit of both? Well, it’s combination for you. The same if you don’t really feel much difference, you’re lucky enough to have normal skin.

What Skin Types Is There?
You can get super specific about this, so much so that there can be SO many skin types. But let’s keep it simple for now.
Normal Skin: Normal skin basically balances itself out, with the right amount of natural oils, and it doesn’t react to a whole lot either. For anyone with normal skin, they can pretty much use whatever product they fancy.
Combination Skin: Probably the most common of skin types is combination. Combination skin can be a little mix of different skin types, maybe with an oily T-zone and dry cheeks. But don’t fret, just try to use non oil based products for any oily areas, and creamier products for the drier parts.
Dry Skin: If you have dry skin, you will definitely know about it. Your skin could be visibly dry or flaky, or could just feel super tight when you get out of the shower, basically gasping for a bit of moisturiser.
Oily Skin: Again, with oily skin, you’ll definitely know if you have it. Those will oily skin will be more prone to breakouts, and may sometimes even feel how oily their skin feels. Steer clear of super heavy or creamy products, and try use a face wash that’s for oily skinned gals in particular.
Sensitive Skin: If you think you have sensitive skin, you’ll have to be a whole lot more careful trying out new products, just in case your skin decided to freak out. You might find your skin will easily react to something, by stinging or burning. So when taking care of your skin, opt for gentle products, always.
Once you know what kind of skin you have, it’ll be easier for you to know what products will be basically life changing, and what to completely avoid.
