Skincare SOS: What Should I Do When I Feel A Spot Coming Up?

Plus what not to do!

As a teen, your skin can be complicated. Spots, blemishes, acne and irritation are just some of the things many of us have to deal with. If your skin is getting you down, we want to help. In comes Skincare SOS where we break down common questions and issues for you.

This week, we’re looking at what to do if you feel a spot coming up.

Picture the scene, you’re having a good skin week and feeling fab, when you’re minding your own business only to feel something tingling on your chin, or your forehead, or wherever it wants to pop up!

So what do you do? Cover it in creams or attack it with your nails? Well actually, neither is ideal.

With over 15 years in the industry, Joanne Woods offers her expertise on all things skincare and beauty. Her advice is pretty simple.

“First things first, don’t be tempted to pick it! Picking a pimple may result in scarring to the face.” Yikes! Picking in definitely not worth it.

So what can you do?

“If possible use skincare products which contain Salicylic in them as it will reach the core of the pimple,” Joanne explains. So if you’ve got some skincare with this ingredient, lash it on. Of course, it’s likely you might not have it in your cupboard, so if not, you do have other options.

“For an at-home remedy, dilute tea tree oil with water and apply it directly to the affected area,” says Joanne. “This will help to clean the infection and kill any remaining bacteria.”

If you can’t find any tea tree oil in your cupboard, you can pick it up for as little as €3 in chemists and health shops.

So there you have it, act fast with tea tree or salicylic, and whatever you do, do NOT pick it!
