Trending: The Scarf Top

The most versatile piece in your wardrobe

As we shared the other day, the first of this month marked the beginning of Second Hand September, an initiative led by Oxfam. The goal of second hand September is to reduce the impact fast fashion has on the planet. This can be done by only shopping second hand for the month, and also reusing and restyling pieces that you already have in your wardrobe.

With this in mind, we’d like to introduce you to the silk scarf, the most versatile piece you could add to your wardrobe. It’s pretty likely you already own one, and if not, a root around your granny’s wardrobe or a trip to your local charity shop can change that.

The scarf top trend comes around each summer, and for good reason – it’s cute! But this year in 2020, the trend has completely blown up. Now, we know, that given the month we’re in, there aren’t too many days left to wear a cute little crop top, but, we’re going to embrace it for the now and style ours up in a million different ways before we have to hang it up again until next Spring.

We took a look at how some of our favourite style Instagrammers are styling up their scarfs, and the results were plentiful. With the most common go-to styling, of course, being the boob-tube and bandeau – minimum effort and maximum results. But, we did come across some absolute gems, like the Grecian halter-neck, and bustier, which can be created by simply tucking your scarf into a strapless bra. You can check out all the different ways we styled the scarf in our tik tok video below if you’re looking for some inspo.

If you have the scarf knotting part down but not the styling bit, we can help with that too! The best way to style up your top is by pairing it with something high waisted – that allows your décolletage to be the centre of attention. If you have a printed scarf, you could play it safe with a pair of denim jeans or shorts, but if you want to really play around with the look, you could mix a pair of printed wide-leg trousers with a clashing printed scarf too.

When it comes to this trend, it’s the bolder the better, so don’t be afraid to play around with different prints, textures, and styles. The possibilities are endless when it comes to a silk scarf, so go on, get styling.
