Has everyone recovered after watching the first episode of Euphoria season two? It’s safe to say that it was a LOT. We’ve been waiting for this season for what seems like forever, and they certainly kicked it all off with a bang.

If you haven’t yet had the chance to watch it, here’s a little warning about spoilers ahead!

Without going into all of the major scenes (Cassie hiding in the bath, and the WHOLE ENDING), one revelation was Rue and Jules sharing a NYE kiss. Anyone who ships Rules was obviously delighted, but with the introduction of Elliot, Rue’s new “favourite person”, it seems like it’s not going to be an easy road for Rules.

But who doesn’t love a bit of a love triangle?

Well, as it turns out, Zendaya wasn’t a fan of the love triangle at all.

Speaking in an interview about the Rue-Jules-Elliot love triangle that will develop throughout the season, Zendaya revealed that when she first talked to showrunner Sam Levinson about it, she wasn’t on board.

“There were a lot of conversations over the years about where the show was going to go and what it was going to evolve into, and I remember when Sam first kind of talked about the idea of this Elliot character, I wasn’t feeling it – as someone who ships ‘Rules’ to the bitter end,” she told Variety.

“And I was like, ‘whoa, whoa, whoa, what are we doing here?'”

Yep, so Zendaya is also a big Rules fan. But, she also spilled that Elliot’s character is essential to Rue’s journey and storyline in season two.

“But, in retrospect, and also as someone who understands where the show needs to go and what needs to happen for these characters, it’s crucial that Elliot exist and that he be the person that is honestly the catalyst for a lot of things that just have to happen.”

In the same interview, Hunter Schafer (who plays Jules) also agreed with Zendaya, sharing that she eventually did come around to the love triangle idea.

“I think I was in a similar boat to Z when I first heard about this ‘Elliot boy,'” Hunter shared. “But, you know, as we saw more of what it brought into the story and the script, it became a more interesting and exciting prospect, and once Dom came on board, he made it a lot of fun.”

Okay, can we just binge the whole season already?
